I visited Montevideo, Uruguay, January 6, 2005, for three reasons: 1. To get warm. 2. To take it easy. 3. To see as many apartments as possible and to buy one if at all possible. I accomplished all three objectives. The guidance and help of Verónica Cánepa, who owns her own real estate agency, was superb. I very much appreciate her attention, efficiency, and always being on time. I could never have accomplished my primary task without her. Also, the Escribana firm headed by Nilda Ache was extremely helpful. I appreciate her guidance and that of her excellent staff. Ms. Cánepa has an great web site I suggest you visit: www.veronicacanepa.com My apartment is No. 601 in the Santa Maria Tower of the Torres Columbus, which is located on Rambla Gandhi, one the sections of the Rambla, a wide avenue that circumvents a great deal of Montevideo. On one side of the Rambla is the Rio de la Plata; on the other are residences, parks, and offices. It runs for 19 miles and has a bike, walking, and running path. The nine beaches in Montevideo are open to one and all. My apartment is very near Playa Pocitos. |
The
Torres Columbus is a modern apartment building, built in 1997, with a
swimming
pool, indoor parking, fitness center, and clubroom and parrilla
(grill).
There was nothing in the apartment when I acquired it, not even light
fixtures. I returned to Montevideo in mid September 2005 to begin
furnishing the apartment. I achieved a
great deal and was able to occupy it by early October, even though I
had
acquired only the most basic furnishing. These photographs show each
room
sequentially, from being empty to the present. During my nearly
three-month stay in January-March 2006, I spent most of the time
pursing
furnishings, many of which I had made especially for me, such as a
sofa,
chairs, tables, etc. See the apartment
in photos from empty to nearly furnished - I even have a TV. [Updated June 27, 2006] |
